AC Induction Calculations

In 1976, under Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and American Gas Association (A.G.A.) sponsorship, ESI President Dr. John Dabkowski developed methods for reducing mathematical electromagnetic coupling theory to the practical application of solving electric power line magnetic field characterization and interference problems on collocated rights-of-way. During the ensuring years, he has conducted and consulted on numerous interference/coupling and magnetic field management studies. From basic first principles,he has developed computer programs for the calculation of electromagnetic coupling levels. He recently completed a user friendly computer program for the American Gas Association which predicts electromagnetic coupling effects on buried pipelines and allows mitigative procedures to be designed.

Magnetic Field Exposure Studies

ESI has provided consulting, research and expert witness services for overhead and buried electric power line field exposure assessment. Extensive research has been conducted relative to the evaluation and design of field management methods such as shielding and cancellation for transmission and distribution lines and electric power substations.

Corrosion Studies

ESI staff have conducted a number of research programs for the American Gas Association and other clients involving pipeline corrosion research, cathodic protection systems, dc and ac interference, ac impedance studies, and corrosion detection instrumentation. The results of these studies are available for use in consulting services by ESI.
